Olivewood Tile with Quilt Blocks

Handmade in small batches in my Asheville studio, each tile is individually formed, glazed, and fired by hand.

These tiles are made for the home: kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, backsplashes, and anywhere you want a little more character than a perfectly uniform tile can offer. Subtle variations in color, surface, texture, and shape are part of the process and make every tile slightly different.

Each tile measures approximately 6 cm × 9 cm. As each tile is handmade, slight variations in size and shape are to be expected.

The collection is inspired by the colors of the American landscape: weathered wood, desert greens, faded denim, and warm red earth. Each glaze has its own depth and movement, shifting gently with the light and revealing the handmade process beneath the surface.

Use a single color for a quiet, tonal installation, mix colors for something more collected, or pair them with other materials to create a space that feels old, layered, and lived-in.

Lead Time

All tiles are made to order in small batches. Please allow 4–6 weeks for your tiles to be handmade, fired, and prepared for shipment.

Returns

Because our tiles are handmade to order, all sales are final. If your order arrives damaged or there is an issue with your tiles, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we’ll be happy to help.

Free shipping within the U.S. during our launch period while we establish shipping rates for our handmade tile collection.

Orders are carefully packed and shipped from our studio in Asheville, North Carolina. For international orders, please contact us for a shipping quote.

It’s all in the details.

  • Each tile is handmade in my Asheville studio from ceramic clay and finished with a hand-applied glaze. Because every tile passes through the hands of the artist, slight variations in color, texture, edges, and dimensions are to be expected.

    These variations are not imperfections - they are part of what makes handmade tile beautiful.

    The finished glaze has natural depth and movement, allowing the color to change subtly depending on the light and surrounding materials.

  • Please expect variation from tile to tile and from batch to batch. Colors shown on screen may also vary slightly from the finished tile depending on your monitor and lighting.

    For larger installations, we recommend ordering all of your tiles at the same time whenever possible so they can be produced from the same glaze batch.

  • These tiles are intended for residential interior applications such as kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, fireplace surrounds, and other decorative wall applications.

    Because handmade tiles can vary slightly in size and shape, we recommend using an experienced tile installer familiar with handmade ceramic tile.

    We recommend ordering approximately 10% additional tile to account for cuts, breakage, and installation waste.

  • Some tiles in the collection feature areas of exposed, unglazed clay. These raw clay surfaces are intentionally part of the design and will naturally have a more matte, earthy appearance than the glazed areas.

    If your tiles have exposed raw clay, they should be sealed after installation and before grouting. Sealing the raw clay first helps prevent the grout from absorbing into the clay and discoloring the surface.

    We recommend:

    1. Install the tiles and allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    2. Apply a suitable penetrating sealer to the exposed raw clay areas, following the sealer manufacturer's directions. Avoid leaving excess sealer on the glazed surfaces.

    3. Allow the sealer to fully cure.

    4. Grout the installation.

    5. Clean the tiles gently according to the grout manufacturer's instructions.

    A penetrating, matte sealer is recommended for exposed clay so the natural appearance of the surface is preserved. Always test the sealer on a spare tile before installation, as sealers can slightly deepen or change the color of raw clay.

    Glazed surfaces generally do not require sealing. Your tile installer should select products appropriate for the specific installation, tile surface, and grout being used.
